About the Program
The Department of Technology graduate degree programs provide advanced education, research opportunities, and professional development in selected technical areas. Current trends suggest increased growth in job opportunities for individuals with advanced training in technical fields. Our graduate programs build upon the recognized excellence of our undergraduate programs in Appropriate Technology, Building Science, Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology, Technical Communications, and Technology Teacher Education.
Each graduate student designs a unique program of study that includes an 18-hour common core of course work, and an additional 18 hours of course work tailored to the individual's concentration area, background, and individual interests. Cross-disciplinary study and field-based internships are encouraged. The program of study is developed in conjunction with the student's graduate advisor during the first semester of enrollment. A committee of three graduate faculty members, selected by the student, provides guidance to the student throughout his or her program.
Graduate students are also encouraged to participate in a variety of activities designed to expand their professional "network." These activities include a weekly graduate seminar; attendance at conferences, lectures, and workshops; and regular social events such as department picnics, cultural events, or outdoor activities.
