What do you see as the purpose of graduate studies?

Graduate studies contribute to the development of professionals in at least three important ways. First, graduate studies provide opportunities to expand one's thinking about the chosen profession, allowing individuals to become more thoughtful and aware about the world and their role in it. Secondly, graduate studies allow individuals to hone their expertise and content knowledge within their field. Finally, graduate studies enable individuals to become more acquainted with the "culture" of their profession through discussion, involvement, and wider exposure to the work being done in the field. Graduate school can and should be challenging, intellectually stimulating, and rewarding. I believe our program at ASU provides all of these opportunities to students.
