Notable Achievements

Brent Summerville (Appropriate Technology, '06) and his wife Gretchen have a new son, Becket Summerville, born September 14.

Jeremy Ferrell (Appropriate Technology, '07) received the ASU Wachovia Award for Environmental Studies for 2006-2007. This $500 award is made to individuals who have demonstrated leadership in environmental research activity. Ferrell, the first student recipient of this award in its ten-year history, will use his funds to carry out biodiesel feedstock research.

Ian Atwood (Building Science, 08) is the recipient of a $5,000 Appalachian State University Chancellor's Fellowship for 2006-2007.

Chris Thevaos (Technical Communications, '06) is working for End II End Communications in Charlotte, NC.

Mike Dooraghi (Appropriate Technology, '06) and his wife Marci are working for Global Energy Concepts in Seattle, Washington.

Yonatan Strauch (Appropriate Technology, '07)  was awarded $9,914 by the Southern Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program to support his research on bioshelter/greenhouse design, construction, and testing.

Rick Mitts (Technology Education, '07) published the article "Thermocouples" in the May 2006 edition of TechDirections.

Yonatan Strauch and Jessica Blount (Appropriate Technology, '07) were part of a team that was awarded first-round funding for their research on bioshelter/greenhouse design and construction, through the EPA's P3 program.

Jeremy Ferrell, Brooke Frazer and Yonatan Strauch (Appropriate Technology, '07, '06, and '07) were part of a team that was awarded a second round of funding through the U.S. EPA's P3 sustainability program, for a continuation of ASU's student-run biodiesel research project.

Adrian Tait, Beth Ainsworth, and Walker Massey (Building Science '07 and '07, GAIT '06) were part of the design team that won the "Most Innovative Design" award at the North Carolina Sustainable Building Design Competition in April, 2006.

Laura Moorefield (Industrial Technology, Thesis option, '06) is working for Ecos Consulting in Durango, Colorado.
